I came across this on facebook, and I found it interesting. Aerie is launching a new campaign where they don't retouch any of their models in the pictures. It is supposed to show how real women look and not make us feel like we need to live up to the model look. I have seen some posts about it on facebook that think it is a good thing and some that think it is a bad thing and just re-entrenches the stereotype that women need to look perfect. Please post and let me know what you think.

When I saw this I thought it was a great thing that they were doing but you have to consider that a small part of this is a marketing ploy. This may seem very pessimistic but I don't think aerie would make this decision without thinking how it would affect numbers. This is a good step but I don't know if fighting the stereotype is the only reason that aerie is doing this.
ReplyDeleteWhen I originally saw this I thought it was awesome, but then i realized that all the models were still super skinny and had that model look. Though this is a step in the right direction I think they could take it even further with portraying women of all sizes.
ReplyDeleteEven though these girls are still thin, I think it is a great campaign and a great step in the right direction.
