Women equality in marketing

There is a new line of Nerf toys for girls that I found very interesting and want to discuss further in class tomorrow. Nerf has released some new toy guns advertised as strictly for girls. These guns are all pink in a stereotypical fashion. I think it's good that Nerf tries to make girls feel more comfortable with toys normally viewed as toys for guys, however I believe the way they went about it is all wrong. To achieve equality, it makes more sense to me to have girls in the normal commercials for the original line of Nerf toys. Instead Nerf has brought on some form of segregation with lines of toys strictly for boys, and a line of pink play guns strictly for girls.

  1. To summarize this post: it is awesome that girls are being given the same opportunity to play with Nerf toys as boys, however the whole point of equality is that it shouldn't be separate in this situation. New advertisements should be released with girls and boys playing together maybe instead of girls having pink toys to play separately with. Even with these normally boyish toys being marketed for girls, Nerf still makes them pink to still remain stereotypical.

  2. I completely agree. First off, they have girl and boy toys for a reason. Its time for everyone including feminists to accept that women arent men but that doesnt make them inferior. Just because girls usually are attracted to different types of toys doesnt make them any less. WHen i was younger i had zero interest in boys toys but that doesnt mean that later in life im going to suffer. SO what if i was more interested in playing with barbies than i was with action figures. Were different SO WHAT? I think if a girl wanted a nerf gun, she'd go get one it doesn't need to be pink for her to want one.
