I have a love/hate relationship with make-up. I wear it everyday, I have a lot of it, I love shopping for new makeup...but everyday, especially when I'm running late, I question why I do it.
I am okay with how I look without makeup. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I "like" how I look without it, but I don't hate how I look without it. This makes me feel brainwashed! There's nothing wrong with my skin, or my eyelashes, so why do I spend half of my morning dressing them up and changing them?
The eleven "amazing" things from the article are...kind of stupid. But my reasons for doing it everyday could be called stupid as well. It was nice to be reminded that "Your world is not going to collapse. Everyone is still going to recognize you. And life will go on" if I go bare one (or every) day. It's just frustrating that this habit has become such a big part of me.
My daily morning regimen consists of: waking up, showering (washing my hair with a simple shampoo/conditioner For Men mixture), drying, finding clothes that I think match, put on deodorant and maybe combing my hair. I can do all of the above in about ten minutes. After this, I am ready for my day.
ReplyDeleteAmong men, I don't think this routine is abnormal. Why don't most men feel the heightened social pressure to beautify?
I agree with your love/hate relationship with makeup. Sometimes i question as well "why am I doing this", especially in the morning when I would rather sleep than take time to put on makeup. Ultimately, I like makeup because it makes me feel more confident.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I've talked a lot about too to my girlfriend or sisters that it bothers me that they wear makeup every day. They don't wear a large amount or anything but i think it's sad that girls feel obligated to wear makeup to be attractive. Some of it is of course guys' fault that they may find a girl with makeup more attractive, however I believe this is simply due to comparisons. If all women stopped wearing makeup then they'd all be on the same level if that makes any sense, so women are definitely to blame as well. Another point of this topic is that it's not fair that women are almost required to wear makeup however if men were to wear makeup they'd be called gay or maybe even obsessed with their looks....the irony of this is that girls then must be obsessed with their looks to wear makeup themselves. I in no way have any desire to have the societal right to wear makeup however it's upsetting to see that women are allowed to, if not expected, to use products that alter their appearance.
ReplyDeleteFor me, Makeup is like an art form. I love watching youtube video tutorials and experimenting with fun colors. I see it as another way to express myself. Also, when i wear red lipstick I feel like a badass. Look out world, it's a red lipstick day!
