Oppression & Stand with Women

In this class I plan to learn what it means to be a feminist and how to practice it in my life.  I believe that I am some what of a feminist because I stand for women rights such as the right to choose and equal pay not just for women but all Americans. But having the confidence to say yes I am a feminist is something that I have never given much thought too. In the article this week on oppression, I took its meaning to be setting barriers in society that put a limit on an individual's success and happiness.  Oppression stems from viewing a situation or dilemma  from a narrow perspective, making a decision on the issue and not realizing the affect the decision will have on a particular population of individuals.

Since I am a novice at women issues I began to search the internet just to see what information is out there.  I came across our governments Organization for Action-Stand with Women website http://www.barackobama.com/women/ . The organization stands with women on issues of health care , economic security, and leadership roles in companies and their communities.
