In my opinion, one of the most interesting misconceptions of
feminism is that feminists hate men and/or believe that women should be
superior to men. This logic goes against
the fundamental principles of feminism, namely that men and women (and all
other majority and minority groups) should have equal social, economic and
political rights. Such strong backlash
is believed by many feminist scholars to be a means to avoid the problems of
inequality. Instead of working towards a
solution, critics try to shoot the problem down before it can be discussed in
an intellectual manner. I also find it
odd that many critics claim feminists hate children. As a group who has a significantly less
social, economic and political rights and mobility, I believe feminists would see
it appropriate for this vulnerable group to be cared for by groups with greater
privilege, not slighted or ignored. In fact,
many feminists have spoken out against child labor in American-owned overseas
