Pinterest Post

This was a post on Pinterest that I thought was interesting. I think the photo says many words for the rights of the women and they shouldn't depend on the "HIM". First, I didn’t realize that this a cover of a magazine, which surprised me because only few magazines have a social message on the cover page. However, this magazine cover I think will help the message to spread and more magazines will contribute to this issue. This also shows that any form of media have a strong influence on the society. If they portray feminism in a negative then the society will look at feminism in a negative way. However, if they portray it like the following example, the society will be forced to take this issue seriously. It is important for the society to realize the real problems and try to solve it in a mature rather than ignoring the problem.

  1. That is such an interesting magazine cover! As someone who studies communication, the issue always boils down to if the media is the message or if we (the public) dictate what the media produces. But I think you're right in the fact that awareness of a social issue can never be achieved if no one decides to point out the issue's existence. The first step is for at least one person, or magazine in this case, to create awareness in order to raise public awareness and a desire for education about the particular topic at hand.

  2. It is always fascinating to see how we are so at the media's whim in many ways! Like you said, feminism is often portrayed very negatively in the media. Whenever I see a negative portrayal in the media, I always think to myself "okay but no one actually believes that right?". Sadly, though, the fact of the matter is that many people do! It is nice to see a positive portrayal in the media! Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love this! It is really amazing when people in the public eye, like Tegan and Sarah, will stand up for a cause like this.
