Womens body image

Cosmopolitan shows off their new plus size model in this article. This article has stirred up a lot of controversy about what a “plus sized” model actually is and that the one pictured in this article is not a plus sized model but she is just an average sized women. This brings up the issue that women have to constantly deal with of body image. Society has created this image of skinny and flawless women, and has implanted the idea in girl’s heads across the country that everyone needs to attain that image. The problem is that a lot of times the image is outrageously unattainable and unnatural. The lady in this picture is nowhere near plus sized and Cosmopolitan shouldn’t be telling girls all over the world that if they look like her they are plus sized. Society has a big problem with portraying what women should look like. A women shouldn’t have to look a certain way because of society they should focus on living a healthy lifestyle and being comfortable in her own body.

  1. I agree completely. It's really ironic that the media continually defines skinny as beautiful, especially as the average women's size in America is 12-14, which are often labeled as XL by the fashion industry. And I didn't even think that model was very big at all, she just wasn't UBER skinny, more like average size or even less, but I would still consider her pretty. Physical perfection shouldn't be the goal, as it is impossible (even for the best looking model) and aiming for it does more harm than good.

  2. I also agree that is weird how a plus sized model and a plus sized woman are seen as two different things.
