"Bitch!"

I find the term to be used regularly when it really shouldnt be, the term is mainly aimed to women and shockingly enough its usually women who are saying it to one another.  Although plenty of men reference women as "bitches." That is common within rap songs and other genres of music. Personally I have used the word towards a friend however it was not in a derogatory manner. Even then, it is still unacceptable. The other day I was called a bitch by a complete stranger. I was very offended and it made me think of how some people may feel when I use the term freely, whether it be the person I am directly addressing or an outsider looking in. Here's the story: I was walking down the street when a car full of African American men stopped their vehicle on grand and tried to spit game or "hit on me." A woman in the car behind them must have been having a bad day because she felt that it was my fault that traffic was caused. Even though I ignored the men and never stopped to talk to them. I was really insulted by that term regardless of the fact that I did not know the woman. Overall I think the term is so common among people these days when it should not be.

  1. I totally agree. This is the case with a lot of words such as "retard" as well. It is just used in our every day language and I don't think that we realize how offensive it is and that it is actually derogatory even though we don't mean in in that way most times.
