Scandal

I just finished watching 2 seasons of the show Scandal, but didn't realize how some characters are portrayed and related to how women are portrayed today. First, when I watched the show I was amazed to see a character of Olivia Pope. She was a strong and professional working women. I basically like everything from her personality to her attitude, but after watching the seasons some of friends accused of her being dumb for running after him and being the other women. Even though as much as I like Mr.President and Olivia Pope together, I think they need to be aware that they are still cheating. I disagree the way the show expresses that the women will always give in because she is emotional. However, at the same time I like the way the President stands up for Olivia, but also secures his wife before he tries to divorce her. The show does go against the idea of marriage and being with the spouse life long, but it also shows that a couple cant be happy unless they are loyal, honest, and in love with each other.

  1. I love this show so much, however I do think it is problematic how Olivia is such a strong character and can handle anything but gets very emotional and weak when it comes to her affair with the president. They always end up back together and I think if the show really wanted to make her a completely strong female character they would have her be less attached to the president. But then that also would lose viewers because the love affair is one of the main attractions to the show.
