What happens when you use the R word

This link is to an article that talks about the use of the word "retard" or "retarded" in slang language. I just saw this and it reminded me exactly of what we were talking about in class today. It has a really good message and goes well with our study of disability studies. Please take the time to read it, you won't regret it.

  1. Glad to see this sort of thing is being spread around more. To me, the bottom line is that it just takes away the humanity of people with actual mental disabilities. Using a word that used to simply define these people to now insult other things is insensitive yet overlooked shortsightedly.

  2. I love the campaign to stop the R word. The language we choose to use is so important, and it's awesome that people are starting to realize that on a larger scale!

  3. Honestly, I find the word to be crazy offensive even when its not directed towards myself. Im very pleased to see a campaign aimed towards stopping the use of the R word.
