Permission

Something I've noticed is that women are far more likely to ask for permission, normally from a man, in various situations. It was discussed in class that men often have a very straight forward and deliberate manner of speech, whereas it is often the case that women speak almost apologetically. I think that the same holds true to the actions of both genders. One such example is that my girlfriend will often ask if it is alright for her to go out that night, a habit that I never requested but which just came naturally. It would never cross my mind to ask for permission, and if I needed to I may view her as controlling. When the situation is reversed, however, it seems to be common practice for women to ask men for permission and this is not considered to be controlling at all but rather expected.

  1. This is interesting because I just realized women do that usually and that to more than men. at the same time, I always wonder why that happens and it doesn't come from a guy who is in a relationship.
