RAPE X- antirape device

Hi all,
So in my sociology class here at SLU, we've been discussing similar topics. After discusssing the difference between sex/gender, we further discussed rape as well as rape culture. My teacher began talking about an interesting new device. Its called " Rape X". This product works as a female condom, so it sort of looks like a condom a male would use, but it is inserted inside the women without the knowledge of the male. Im not sure how the product does it, but the condom actually has  a " claw" feature, so when a male attempts a rape on a women the condom latches onto the males penis. This product does cause the man pain, but no physical harm, it doesnt break the skin. However, this product can only be taken off by a medical professional. I like this product, because alot of times a male gets away with rape and there is no proof, but this condom is living proof. The only reason that this condom would get stuck to a male is if he raped her. the downside to this is that it doesnt prevent the initial rape from occuring, but it could stop the attacker from future attacks. the designer of the product said "It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when it's on," she said. "If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter... however, it doesn't break the skin, and there's no danger of fluid exposure." on another sad note though, this brings up the larger problem in society, that women have to take extreme meaures like this in the first place, they shouldnt have to live in fear of getting raped!

heres a link about the product

  1. It is really sad that suck a product exists, what's even worse it that the article some that some women are already improvising such products with sponges and razors. I agree with some of the article that it is almost enslavement, but at the same time if women are having to create their own prevention tools it is good that something sanitary and safe exists.

  2. While I see both upsides and downsides of this product, hopefully it will lead to discussion about the wider issue. This way other steps may be taken to prevent rape, such as stricter legislation. However, if news of this product is spread hopefully it will scare some people enough to drop the percentage of rapes.
