This is an article about how feminist are not only trying to
help women but want to help men as well. The title “Boys Need Feminism, too”
speaks for itself, in that men are just as hurt by the patriarchy as women are.
We have talked about this in class and this stuck out to me because the author
(a strong feminist) admits to herself that sometimes she belittles the issues men
face, seeing them as less then the issues woman face. I like to see both sides
of feminism like this. In that, its not only woman that need to “crush the
patriarchy” but men too. I also loved the end when she says how “feminist don’t
hate men” because that can so easily be said about a feminist and that all we
want is equality for all. It gets very annoying the claims that people make
that feminist hate men and I see it more as I take this course that many people
don’t know what a feminist is and people can twist it into such a bed word,
when all we want is equality.
I agree with you about how very few people know about what feminism really is. Feminist don't want to and don't hate on the male gender, but tend to be blamed for it. All they want is equality everywhere, whether it be gender or race.
ReplyDeletei agree with you Ali, i really think that the concepts should be made more clear though because i find myself struggling sometimes
ReplyDeleteI think this is great that a credible website like Huffington Post is writting about this. I think it is important that everyone understands the true meaning of feminism.
ReplyDeleteThis is great, I love that this type of approach to feminism is gaining ground and is becoming more well-known. Hopefully, one day we will live in a world where it is not assumed that being feminist is synonymous with hating men.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great point. It is important to remember that an oppressive patriarchy is harmful to both men and women.
